Make Believe

Make Believe

You are the first Adam
I am the first Eve
Don’t question, just imagine
Close your eyes, make believe.

No words to divide us
No time set to leave
Hear the rush of our hearts
Stir the air as we breathe.

No shame for our feelings
No guilt as we cleave
A union in heaven
No judges to displease.

I float on your water
Whisper poetry of thieves
The power of the rhythm
I’m lost on your seas.

What man has ordained
Is clear cause to grieve
God can’t be denied
Close your eyes, make believe.

What is love?

What is love?

Maybe love’s a word?
So often said and heard.
Maybe love’s a dream?
part of someone’s scheme.
Maybe love is power?
Locked in your ivory tower.
Maybe love’s a kiss?
Momentary bliss.
Maybe love’s a pet?
Helping us forget.
Maybe love is sex?
Why make it more complex?
Maybe love is time?
A poet finds words to rhyme.
Maybe love’s to share?
So why so few who dare?
Maybe love’s a ring?
Connecting we to him.
Maybe love’s a name?
Someone that we claim.
Maybe love’s a horse?
Powerful intercourse.
Maybe love’s a sea?
Deep and wild and free.
Maybe love’s a wall?
Breaking as we fall.
Maybe love’s just a word,
So often said and heard,
But little seen.

Fatal Attraction?

He never sleeps
Lying in a bed he made
Ses yeux, trop bleu
Pure light and shade

I hear his voice sing
Inviting me in.
Daring me to touch his skin
Threatening to carry me away
With complicated interplay.

He scares me so.
When will he go?
Maybe he’ll suffocate me?
Crush me or break me?
Where will he take me?

“Just one dance.
Come. Take a chance.”

Curiosity wins
I take a step in
He caresses my feet
And nibbles my knees
He’s such a tease.

He sees me blush
With one little push
I’m overwhelmed by the rush
He takes me in his arms
And whirls me around
My ears full of him
And of his sound.

Is he my fate?
Am I too late?

I’m out of my depth
And can’t catch my breath.
Each hour I grow weaker
Survival seems bleaker.

I catch onto a rock
Imagine his shock
His pull is so strong
But I can hang on.

I Live to tell
J’ai échappé belle

Wet and breathless
I drive away
And live to dream
Another day.

The Voyeur

The sun kisses the lake
And she shivers
Absorbing his energy

Like new lovers
They dance together
To the lovelilt of birdsong

Her jewels sparkle
Their offspring bare witness
But make no comment.

Clouds float past
To pour over other trysts
Reflecting on the scene.

A bell rings
A spell breaks
And I must go.

I

I’ve been alive again
Up at half past five again
Darkness far behind again
So strong
A new source of elation
Endless energy
Heightened physical sensation.

Now it’s hard to just get by
Seeking meaning in this life
Tears pouring from my eyes
while wondering why
You raised me up so high
But never taught me how to fly
And as I fall out of the sky
Who’ll be standing by?
Will you be standing by?
Or can I learn to fly
So low.

Teach me

Teach me to laugh when I want to cry
Teach me to live when I want to die
Teach me to love when I want to hate
Teach me to be early when I want to be late
Teach me to let go when I want to hold on
Teach me to stay when I want to be gone
Teach me to be lost when I want to be found
Teach me to bear silence when I want to hear sound
Teach me to whisper when I want to shout
Teach me to believe when I want to doubt
Teach me to give when I want to take
Teach me to be true when I want to fake
Teach me all that there is to know
But most of all teach me to go with the flow.

Manic Moles

Tunnel around
Underground
Gardeners frown
Talk of the town
Multiple mounds
Culprit not found
Always astound
Furry brown clown
Without sight or sound
Crowned
King of our garden
